Position title
Early Head Start toddler room Teacher
STARTING PAY RANGE: $20.98 to $23.03 per hour, depending on the level of education
SCHEDULE: Full-time, weekdays 7:30 am - 3:30 pm, 52 weeks per year
Description
Promote the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of up to eight children between 18 months and 3 years of age, with the assistance of a co-teacher and an aide. Provide and maintain a safe environment for assigned children, and ensure that they are appropriately supervised and cared for at all times.
Qualifications
- Either an Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate credential or a college degree in a field related to Early Childhood Education, or equivalent formal education.
- Experience working with children under age 3 in a group setting.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that all children assigned to class are supervised at all times. Perform regular counts of children assigned to ensure that all children are accounted for.
- Ensure a well-run, purposeful program, responsive to participant needs.
- Manage the classroom, using available resources to ensure operation. This includes skills in organization, planning, record keeping, communication and cooperation with other staff members.
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment.
- Promote good health and nutrition, and provide an environment that contributes to the prevention of illness.
- Use space, materials and routines as resources for developing an interesting, secure, and enjoyable environment that encourages play, exploration, and learning.
- Advance physical and intellectual competence, providing a variety of equipment, activities and opportunities to promote the physical development of children, and to encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to their developmental levels and learning styles.
- Actively communicate with children, and provide opportunities and support to understand, acquire, and use verbal and nonverbal means of communicating thoughts and feelings.
- Support social and emotional development through attachment, initiative and self-regulation and provide positive guidance.
- Establish positive and productive relationships with families.
