Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Level II – 4 year degree in child development, human services or other related field. A minimum of one year of experience working with adults and/or children under the age of three or pregnant women.
Must have a valid NYS driver license and be able to travel during working hours.

 

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Meet with identified men and women, including pregnant or post-partum women, who are incarcerated at the Onondaga Correctional Facility in Jamesville along with their children on a scheduled bi-weekly basis.

2. Work with enrolled parents at the Jamesville facility to plan and develop age-appropriate early childhood education activity plans based on each child’s assessment and identified family needs.

3. Co-Facilitate parent education trainings for enrolled parents.

4. Integrate all Early Head Start functional areas during each visit:

A. Child Development – Assist parents in developing activities to use in educational experiences with their children based on an assessment of the child’s strengths, interests and needs.

B. Health/Nutrition – Offer health information and health education experiences to each parent and child, including nutrition information and experiences. Conduct health checks during each visit. Assess each mother’s and child’s medical needs, provide information and advocate for services.

C. Family Development – Assist parents in developing their individual goals and steps to achieve those goals while incarcerated, as well as when they are discharged from the facility.

D. Community Development – Assist parents in utilizing available resources within the facility and provide mothers with information on community resources available upon release.

5. Provide a safe, appropriate learning environment in which children participate in a group socialization experience, with transportation responsibilities as needed.

6. Upon discharge assist-enrolled parent’s transition from the correctional facility utilizing resources in their community to promote self-sufficiency.

7. Establish and maintain successful working relationships with community resources.

8. Provide crisis intervention, emergency assistance, counseling, information and referral services to Early Head Start families.

9. Assist in monthly parent meeting to train EHS parent’s about committee duties as they apply to HS/EHS, complete required documentation of parent involvement hours and donations.

10. Attend and help to facilitate socialization events for Jamesville EHS program participants twice monthly.

11. Attend all scheduled program meetings within the Jamesville Correctional facility with counselors and other staff.

12. Participate in workshops and training sessions to improve overall job performance and further knowledge and experiences as they relate to the Head Start Performance Standards.

13. Maintain confidentiality of all family and child records and all other matters relating to families.

14. Perform all other duties as they relate to the comprehensive team approach of the Early Head Start philosophy.

15. Adhere to relevant health and safety policies and procedures.
