Older Americans Month is celebrated during May, when PEACE, Inc. acknowledges the contributions of older adults and reaffirms our commitment to serving them. With our AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program, we recognize the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections made while volunteering has on the health and well-being of our participants. This connectedness plays a vital role in supporting independence and aging in place for foster grandparents by combating isolation, loneliness, purpose, and other issues.
When surveyed last year, 81% of senior citizens reported feeling happier and more satisfied with life while serving as a foster grandparent volunteer. 76% reported feeling more a part of their community, while 77% reported having more purpose in life. 83% of foster grandparents reported feeling they made a positive difference in a child’s life! We are truly grateful to play a small part in improving the lives of senior citizens in Syracuse.
