Welch Allyn Volunteers Help Out at Merrick Head Start

Jun 6, 2014 | News and Information

On Tuesday, June 10th at 10:00 a.m., twenty Welch Allyn employees will converge on PEACE, Inc.’s Merrick Head Start/Early Head Start site at 175 Hudson Street in Syracuse. As a part of Welch Allyn’s 5th Annual Beacon of Quality – A Show of Hands event, dedicated and skilled Welch Allyn volunteers will improve and beautify the gym and playground areas, making them more fun, educational and safe for the 254 infants, toddlers and preschoolers who attend the Head Start program at the site. Volunteers will sand and stain paneling in the gym, strip and wax gym floors, and tidy and spruce up the playground and entrance areas.

Welch Allyn is deploying teams of volunteers to 20 sites around Central New York. This year will be the longest yet in terms of the hours available, with some teams putting in six hours of work or more.

PEACE, Inc. is very grateful for Welch Allyn’s assistance. Joe O’Hara, Executive Director of PEACE, Inc. noted recently, “The impact of this kind of project is two-fold. Not only do our Head Start and Early Head Start children, families and staff benefit from the improvements to the facility, but, by completing those special tasks that keep the building in good condition, PEACE, Inc. continues being a good neighbor.”

“We are thrilled to be able to send a team of employees to PEACE, Inc.’s Merrick Head Start this year,” said David Allyn, director of corporate social responsibility at Welch Allyn. “It is especially gratifying to be able to help a neighbor in Onondaga County since that’s where many of our employees live, work and play. We’re equally pleased to support PEACE, Inc. in its mission to help people in the local community realize their potential for becoming self-sufficient.”
