Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS)of Onondaga County matches children, between the ages of 6 and 12 who reside in Onondaga County, with adult volunteers from the community.

Volunteers are asked to make a commitment to the child for one year, spending 1-1/2 to 2 hours per week with that child.

Case management and support is provided by BBBS for all volunteers and "littles" in the program.

BBBS also hosts many group activities throughout the year at no cost to program participants, such as baseball and hockey games, summer picnics and holiday celebrations.

To enroll a child in our program the parent/guardian must be the ones requesting services.

Traditional Program

We accept applications for children between the ages of 6 and 12 who reside in Onondaga County and the Central Square area of Oswego County. When a child is matched with a volunteer as long as the volunteer stays in the program the child may participate until they are 18 years old.

Big Brothers Big Sisters asks our volunteers to make a commitment to a child for one year, spending 8 to 10 hours a month with their "Little". All our volunteers and anyone over the age of 18 living in their household must undergo a criminal background check and we ask for three personal or professional references.

The program consists of tutoring, homework assistance and socialization. the students will also have the opportunity to participate in 2 field trips during the year.
