Digging Into Change with Onondaga Earth Corps

Digging Into Change with Onondaga Earth Corps

PEACE, Inc. recently shared insightful program information with the Onondaga Earth Corps during a productive visit to the Emma L. Johnston Southside Family Resource Center. The goal was to inform the program participants of the different programs and services that PEACE, Inc. provides for the community.

The Onondaga Earth Corps is an initiative that empowers young people by providing them with opportunities to engage in activities that foster positive transformation within themselves, their local communities, and the broader environment. By equipping youth with the necessary skills and knowledge, the Earth Corps aims to nurture future leaders who are conscious of environmental sustainability and community development. For instance, participants may engage in projects such as urban tree planting, conservation efforts, or educational workshops on environmental stewardship. Such initiatives not only enhance the participants’ understanding of ecological issues but also contribute significantly to the betterment of their surroundings. Through this collaboration, both organizations strive to create a more sustainable and harmonious world, underscoring the importance of youth involvement in shaping a brighter future for all.

New Nursing Room for New Mothers

New Nursing Room for New Mothers

PEACE, Inc. Head Start received recognition from the Onondaga County Health Department for our commitment to creating a lactation-friendly community. We extend heartfelt gratitude to the Breastfeeding, Chestfeeding, and Lactation Friendly New York (BFFNY) and Onondaga Public Health for their support through a grant. We are thrilled to collaborate with them to provide a comfortable and supportive space for our PEACE employees and families from our home-based programs and Head Start to express milk.

“I have always had a love and passion for helping with lactation and being a mom who has worked and pumped, looking for a cozy environment where all my needs can be met was hard. I wanted to be a part of the change and help make all the moms feel some relaxation when they are burning so much energy feeding their babies. We want moms to feel supported and know PEACE is lactation-friendly. This comes just in time for World Breastfeeding Week, which takes place from August 1 to 7. Make sure to take a moment to celebrate all the hard work you are doing. ” -Cassidy Thornton, Lactation liaison

” Breastfeeding is natural. It isn’t always natural like breathing (which is automatic), but rather like walking (which needs to be learned)” – La Leche League.
