PEACE, Inc., KeyBank, and Beauchamp Branch Library partner for successful Super Saturday event!

On February 3, PEACE, Inc., KeyBank, and members of the CNY CA$H Coalition hosted a great Super Saturday Free Tax event at Beauchamp Branch Library, Onondaga County Public Libraries.

More than 30 staff and volunteers from the entities filed 40 tax returns in a little more than 4 hours. Thank you to all who helped! The numbers and impact are great, including:

  • 34 of the 40 filers received returns totaling $57,552!
  • The average return was $1,693.
  • The average filer was 43 years old and reported an annual income of $34,442.
  • 8 of the families were at 100% or below the Federal Poverty Level. 26 families were at 200% or below the Federal Poverty Level.
  • 10 of the filers earned Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC); 9 earned Child Tax Credits (CTC).

In a census tract where nearly 70% of youth live in poverty, a Super Saturday Event at Beauchamp Library can make a big difference!

If you missed the event, not a problem! You can schedule an appointment at our year-round Free Tax Prep Program and/or one of our partnering sites at https://www.peace-caa.org/taxes/.

PEACE, Inc. Board of Directors convened for its annual retreat

On January 26 and 27, the PEACE, Inc. Board of Directors convened for its annual retreat. The agenda was a full one, beginning with a site visit to PEACE, Inc.’s Merrick Head Start facility as well as a Media Event for EITC Awareness Day with the CA$H Coalition of CNY  at Beauchamp Branch Library. Robust conversations soon followed about the agency’s proposed Strategic Design and DEI Initiatives. Presentations about the agency’s Early Childhood Career Pathways Program (a partnership with Child Care Solutions of CNY) as well as Early Head Start/Head Start’s use of data also commenced. The retreat concluded with the Board’s monthly meeting and a video presentation from the agency’s Program Directors. Thanks go to the Board Members, Agency Staff, and Community Members that made the retreat such a successful one.

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Awareness Day Media Event

It was a great EITC Awareness Day Media Event today, as we teamed with our partners at the IRS, The CNY CA$H Coalition and Onondaga County Public Library/Beauchamp Branch Library to get the word about all of the tax credits and free tax prep services available to low-income, Onondaga County residents. Remember, if your 2023 household income was $64,000 or less, call 211, 315.634.3756 or visit www.peace-caa.org/taxes for an appointment!

Thank you Thompson & Johnson Equipment

Thank you Thompson & Johnson Equipment

PEACE, Inc. would like to thank Thompson & Johnson Equipment Co. Inc.  for their generous donation of a pallet jack to our Frank DeFrancisco Eastwood Community Center.

Rollin and his volunteers there receive a lot of great donations from the community and our partners; the pallet jack will ensure that they can continue their efforts safely and effectively. Particular thanks also go to former PEACE, Inc. Board President David Scharoun for his role in helping us secure this important piece of equipment.
